An international day of service for a positive spin to 2020

As part of the global #LightTheWorld campaign, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Caribbean has designated this Saturday, December 12, as the eighth annual International Day of Service to give a positive spin to 2020 through simple acts of kindness on behalf of others.

Hundreds of members of the Church in the Caribbean Area who are part of the Helping Hands volunteers, will join with local government representatives, community leaders and other faith organizations in providing service to the community. These community impact service projects include: the distribution of prepared food and COVID-19 protection kits, painting public spaces and helping with health operations, among others. This year, due to the pandemic, special protection measures will be taken to prevent the spread of the virus.

Some ideas for getting involved individually or as a family include cleaning homes for the elderly, giving lunch or dinner to people on the street, assisting those who cannot do their shopping by themselves, helping with the cleaning of gardens and other areas of the house, etc.

“The Church's invitation is for everyone to carry out some voluntary and spontaneous act of kindness for their neighbor, from wherever they are, this Saturday, December 12.  We encourage the use of social networks with the hashtags #LightTheWorld and #IntlServiceDay to show the good that we can all do together, encourage participation and light the lives of others as Jesus did,” said Elder Jorge Alvarado of the Caribbean Area Presidency.

Those interested in participating in an organized manner can follow the Church's social networks on Facebook and Instagram @churchofjesuschrist.caribbean where information on the countrywide projects will be provided.
