Presidencia

The Caribbean Area Presidency is comprised of three members of the Quorum of the Seventy.  In addition, Area Seventies serve in the Area.

Elder Eduardo Gavarret

Elder Eduardo Gavarret

Eduardo Gavarret was sustained as a General Authority Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on April 5, 2008.

Eduardo Gavarret was born in Minas, Lavalleja, Uruguay, on May 11, 1956. He married Norma Beatriz Gorgoroso Martirena in October 1978. They are the parents of three children.

He received a license in administration and management from the Universidad Autonoma-UAA in 1986 and a license from Dale Carnegie in human relations in 1987. In 2000 he also received an MBA in marketing from INPG-MBA in Brazil.

He has served in a number of Church callings, including full-time missionary in the Uruguay/Paraguay Mission, branch president, stake executive secretary, bishop, stake mission president, stake president, regional representative, Area Authority, Area Seventy, high councilor, temple worker, Brazil Missionary Training Center branch counselor, president of the Paraguay Asuncion Mission, and counselor in a bishopric. He is currently serving as President of the Caribbean Area.

At the time of his call, Eduardo Gavarret had been serving in the bishopric of the Santa Cruz Ward in the Limatambo stake in Lima, Peru.

He has served as a member of the Fourth Quorum of the Seventy, First Counselor in the South America Northwest Area Presidency, an Assistant Executive Director in the Missionary Department and Information and Communications Services Department, and Second Counselor in the Brazil Area Presidency. He is currently serving as First Counselor in the Caribbean Area Presidency.

He was employed by Tecnofarma for 18 years, working for that company in Paraguay, Bolivia, Peru, and Brazil. He then worked as a general manager for IVAX Corporation in Peru and later as the business director for Brazil. In 2006 GP Pharm S.A. employed him in Peru as general manager and also as regional manager for Central America and Uruguay.


 

Elder Valeri V. Cordón

Elder Valeri V. Cordón

Valeri V. Cordón was sustained as a General Authority Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on April 2, 2016.

Valeri Vladimir Cordón was born in Guatemala City, Guatemala, on February 19, 1969. He married Glenda Zelmira Zea Diaz in March 1995. They are the parents of three children.

He received a bachelor of science degree in computer science from Mariano Galvez University in Guatemala and a master of business administration from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2012.

He has served in numerous Church callings, including full-time missionary in the El Salvador Mission, seminary teacher and institute teacher, elders quorum president, stake mission president, ward Sunday School president, high councilor, bishop, stake president, counselor in a mission presidency, high priests group leader, and Area Seventy. At the time of his call, he had been serving as a member of the Fourth Quorum of the Seventy in the Central America Area.

Elder Córdon served as a member of the Central America Area Presidency and recently served as president of the California Los Angeles Mission. He is currently serving in the North America West Area Presidency and as the assistant executive director of the Priesthood and Family Department.

In the information technology industry he has worked as a system analyst, customer service manager, manager, support manager, director, director of IT strategy planning and control, director of strategy and planning for emerging markets, and a director of performance management. Just before he was called as a General Authority, he worked as a director of business information solutions for Pepsico Foods.


 

Elder Moisés Villanueva

Elder Moisés Villanueva

Elder Moisés Villanueva was sustained as a General Authority Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on April 4, 2020, at age 53. At the time of his call, he had been serving as an Area Seventy and a member of the Fourth Quorum of the Seventy in the Mexico Area. He is currently serving as Second Counselor in the Caribbean Area Presidency.

Elder Villanueva received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Southeast Regional University in 1997. In 2011 he received a master’s degree in innovation for business improvement from Tecnológico de Monterrey. At the time of his call as a General Authority, he had been working as chief executive officer of SERTEXA.

Elder Villanueva has served in a number of Church callings, including full-time missionary in the Mexico Hermosillo Mission, high councilor, regional welfare agent, Church-service missionary, bishop, area auditor, counselor in a stake presidency, and president of the California Arcadia Mission from 2014 to 2017.

Moisés Villanueva Lopez was born in Oaxaca, Mexico, on December 13, 1966. He married Leticia Ávalos Lozano in 1995. They are the parents of three children.

Tomás Román

Tomás G. Román

Elder Tomás G. Román was named an Area Seventy and a member of the Fourth Quorum of the Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the April 2019 general conference. Elder Román received a bachelor of administration degree in human resources from the Inter American University of Puerto Rico and a master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling from Bayamón Central University. Since 2016 he has worked as the human resources department manager for the Veterans Hospital of Puerto Rico.

Elder Román has served in a number of Church callings, including ward Young Men president, elders quorum president, bishop, and high councilor. Tomás G. Román Candelario was born in Lares, Puerto Rico, on May 26, 1970. He married Yaritza I. Bermudez Pinto in 2002. They are the parents of four children. Elder and Sister Román reside in Gurabo, Puerto Rico.


 

Elder Paul H. Jean Baptiste

Elder Paul H. Jean Baptiste

Elder Paul H. Jean Baptiste was named an Area Seventy and a member of the Sixth Quorum of the Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the April 2021 General Conference.

Elder Jean Baptiste received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Quisqueya University. He works as owner and chief executive officer of a commodity and transportation business.

Elder Jean Baptiste has served in a number of Church callings, including full-time missionary in the Haiti Port-au-Prince Mission, bishop, audit committee chairman, and counselor in a stake presidency.

Paul Henry Jean Baptiste was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, on May 26, 1976. He married Wildermina Voltaire in 2000. They are the parents of three children. Elder and Sister Jean Baptiste reside in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.


 

Elder Claude R. Gamiette

Elder Claude R. Gamiette

Elder Claude R. Gamiette, was called as an Area Authority Seventy and as a member of the Sixth Quorum of Seventy, of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in the April 2022 general conference.

He is a manager in the Caribbean Area of the Self-Sufficiency department; he served as branch president, second counselor in the district presidency, district president, member of the mission presidency, and mission president; wife: Delphine; Five sons.

Elder Gamiette was born in Pointe-à-Pître, Guadeloupe, and is married to Delphine Gamiette and they have five children.

Elder Carlos J. Lantigua

Elder Carlos J. Lantigua, was called as an Area Authority Seventy and as a member of the Sixth Quorum of Seventy, of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, at the General Conference leadership session on Thursday, May 30. March 2023.

Elder Carlos J. Lantigua is the Sales Manager of Cartonera Hued SAS.

Elder Lantigua has served in various Church callings; he currently serves as president of the Santo Domingo Dominican Republic Las Americas Stake; he has been a bishop, a counselor in the branch presidency, and a member of the high council; wife: Niurka Atavelis; one child.

 


 

Elder Orlando A. Castaños

Elder Orlando A. Castaños

Elder Orlando A. Castaños, was called as an Area Authority Seventy and as a member of the Sixth Quorum of Seventy, of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in the general conference leadership session on Thursday, May 30. March 2023.

Elder Castaños is the administrative director of Orlando Industries.

Elder Orlando A. Castaños, has served in various Church callings, currently serving as Young Men ward adviser in the Herrera 1 Ward; he has been a bishop, branch president, high councilor, stake presidency counselor, and stake president; wife: Dareidi; three children.


 

Oscar A. Perez

Elder Oscar A. Perez

Is a postmaster/official in Charge, USPS; currently serving as president of the Mayagüez Puerto Rico Stake; former bishop, bishopric counselor, branch presidency counselor, high councilor, and stake presidency counselor; wife: Melinda they have one child.
