Kingston Jamaica Stake Conference held June 11 & 12, 2022

The Kingston Jamaica Stake’s biannual Conference was held on June 11 & 12, 2022, at the Spanish Town Chapel, and a new stake presidency was announced. The newly called stake Presidency consists of President Vaughn Pinnock, First Councillor President Shun Lawton and Second Councillor President Sean Clayton. The change in the presidency took place on June 12 during the Sunday session.

Over one thousand members from eight chapels across the Kingston Jamaica stake attended and viewed the Conference on Zoom both days. Members sustained the newly called presidency by uplifting their right hands and supporting Elder Jorge Alvarado, Member of the Seventy and First Councillor in the Caribbean Area Presidency, who presided accompanied by Elder Kevin Brown, Area Seventy.

At the Saturday session, Elder Alvarado and Elder Brown reminded auxiliary leaders and councillors that God had called them to do great work; stay on the covenant path and use the church’s programs to minister to the youths better.

Elder Alvarado and Elder Brown also counselled members to invite less-active members into their homes, have the missionaries teach them, and help them return to the covenant path.

President Arnold O. Odonkor, Jamaica Kingston Mission President and his wife, Sister Sethrina Odonkor, bore their testimony about the blessings of the temple and how it has blessed their lives as a family. Members were encouraged to work towards having a temple here in Jamaica.

On Sunday, President Vaughn Pinnock shared, “We need to ensure that we are living a life worthy of getting us to the temple; Heavenly Father cares about the intimate details of our lives; if we take it to Him in prayer, He will answer us.” President Sean Clayton (First Councillor) said, “This is a great work; I am grateful for the opportunity to serve you; I pray that the Lord will open my eyes and help me see you as he sees you.” President Shun Lawton (second councillor) said, “Stay on the covenant path; it is not just a path to prosperity but a path to transformation.”

The stake presidency shared later when asked what members can expect from them. “Expect disciple leadership; all our decisions will be guided by revelation; as we receive these revelations together in council, we will be able to help the members. We have been called by the Lord and automatically represent Him and His qualities. As imperfect as we are, we have to exemplify patience, charity, love, compassion, and understanding, which would be the necessary ingredients for people to “Come Follow Me” when the call is extended.
