Saturday, July 21st the Haïti Port-Au-Prince North stake had their seminary graduation for the 2017-2018 school year.
This activity was presided over by the stake president, Brother Gethro Nerosil, and had many stake and ward leaders in attendance. Brother Kerving H. Joseph, Coordinator of the Seminaries and Institutes program in Haiti, also attended.
Christopher Baptiste Junior, Abraham Marion Bien Aimé, Justine Colas, Sadhia Rochenel, and Arthur Jefferson Simé completed the four-year program and received their diplomas. Another 27 youth successfully completed the current course and received certificates of completion. This year the course that the youth studied was The Book of Mormon.
President Nerosil talked about the need to study The Book of Mormon as a tool to change our life. He was converted by the book and told the youth, “It has been 13 years since I have received this precious gift which is The Book of Mormon. Because of it, I have developed the strength that I need to stay active both in the Church and the gospel. My friends used to tease me for my choice but my constant study in The Book of Mormon has given me the reason to keep going.”
President Nerosil shared with them the invitation to be part of the army of the Lord by quoting President Russel M. Nelson:
“Now, let me summarize by reviewing my five invitations for you to enlist in the Lord’s youth battalion to help gather Israel:
- Hold a seven-day fast from social media.
- Make a weekly sacrifice of time to the Lord for three weeks.
- Keep on the covenant path. If you are off, repent and get back on the path.
- Pray daily that all of God’s children might receive the blessings of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
- Stand out. Be different. Be a light. Give a friend a copy of the booklet For the Strength of Youth.
“My beloved younger brothers and sisters, you are among the best the Lord has ever sent to this world. You have the capacity to be smarter and wiser and have more impact on the world than any previous generation!”
Seminaries are religion classes for youth from ages 14 to 17 where they are taught doctrine and how to live the gospel in the Savior’s way. Students start when they enter high school and end when they finish. The young people graduate when they have completed 4 years of Seminary.
